Candidate Rubrics

The Platform essay should be typed, double-spaced, and follow the rules of an Extended Response Essay. The Platform Essay is Due November 1st by 4:00 pm and should be uploaded to Edline by your project manager.

Platform Rubric

Mastery
• The Platform Essay includes eight Planks, each plank is contained in its own paragraph.
• Each Plank has a clearly stated position.
• The combination of Planks is consistent with a clear Political Ideology stated in the introductory paragraph.
• Each plank contains information from three or more different interest groups, and the information is cited correctly.

Proficient
• The Platform Essay includes eight Planks, each plank is contained in its own paragraph.
• Each Plank has a clearly stated position.
• Each plank contains information from two or more different interest groups, and the information is cited correctly.

Progressing
• The Platform Essay addresses more than five Planks, each plank is contained in its own paragraph.
• Most Planks have a clearly stated position, but some are vague or unclear.
• Each plank contains information from two or more different interest groups, and the information is cited correctly.

Unsatisfactory
• The Platform Essay addresses less than five Planks, or does not divide each plank into its own paragraph.
• Most Planks lack a clearly stated position.
• Each plank contains information from less than two different interest groups, or the information is not cited correctly.

The group should prepare many pieces of propaganda. All propaganda must be turned in to John’s Office on November 4th by 9:00 am. The propaganda analysis should be typed, double-spaced, and follow the rules of an Essay.

Propaganda Rubric

Mastery
• The group submits five or more pieces of propaganda.
• The pieces of propaganda show a variety of propaganda techniques as well as a variety of media forms.
• The group submits a propaganda analysis for each piece that accurately analyzes the propaganda, and connects it to the platform.

Proficient
• The group submits three or more pieces of propaganda.
• The pieces of propaganda show a variety of propaganda techniques as well as a variety of media forms.
• The group submits a propaganda analysis for each piece that accurately analyzes the propaganda.

Unsatisfactory
• The group submits less than three pieces of propaganda.
• The pieces of propaganda lack a variety of propaganda techniques or lack a variety of media forms.
• The group submits a propaganda analysis for each piece, but some of the analysis is inaccurate.

The group should create 8 plank questions and submit each one on a separate note card. Each candidate may select ONE card as their preferential question for the debate; all other debate questions will be pulled randomly from the note card pool. Note cards are due October 29th by 4:00 pm.

Advanced
• The Candidate answers every question by making a clear position statement that is consistent with the platform.
• The Candidate uses a relevant example from an Interest Group while answering every question.
• The Group creates one question for each of their planks and turns them in on time.

Mastery
• The Candidate answers every question by making a clear position statement that is consistent with the platform.
• The Candidate uses an example from an Interest Group while answering every question.
• The Group creates one question for each of their planks and turns them in on time.

Proficient
• The Candidate answers most questions by making a clear position statement that is consistent with the platform.
• The Candidate uses an example from an Interest Group while answering most questions.
• The Group creates one question for each of their planks and turns them in on time.

Progressing
• The Candidate answers most questions by making a clear position statement that is consistent with the platform.
• The Candidate uses examples from Interest Groups while answering some questions.
• The Group creates one question for each of their planks and turns them in on time.

Unsatisfactory
• The Candidate does not make a clear position statement while answering questions, or is not consistent with the platform.
• The Candidate does not use examples from Interest Groups while answering questions.
• The Group does not create one question for each of their planks or does not turn them in on time.
